Variations of the local electronic surface properties of TiO2„110... induced by intrinsic and extrinsic defects

چکیده
Variation of the local electronic structure at rutile TiO2(110) surfaces was studied by scanning tunneling spectroscopy ~STS!. Structural surface features such as step edges, (132) reconstructed strands, and their terminations were correlated to changes in tunneling spectra. In particular, band-gap states, associated with a reduced surface, showed characteristic variations. In addition, electronic variations due to extrinsic defects are discussed. Nanometer wide protrusions in constant current scanning tunneling microscopy images were identified in STS as local electronic alterations. These features are interpreted to be due to local band bending induced by individual, charged impurity atoms.

Noble metal nanostructures dispersed on metal oxide surfaces have applications in diverse areas such as catalysis, chemical sensing, and energy harvesting. Their reactivity, chemical selectivity, stability, and light absorption properties are controlled by the interactions at the metal/oxide interface. Single-atom metal adsorbates on the rutile TiO2(110)-(1 × 1) surface have become a paradigmat...

The charge state of Ag and Au atoms and clusters (Ag4 and Au4, Ag5 and Au5) adsorbed on defective TiO2 anatase(101) and tetragonal ZrO2(101) has been systematically investigated as a function of oxide doping and defectivity using a DFT+U approach. As intrinsic defects, we have considered the presence of oxygen vacancies. As extrinsic defects, substitutional nitrogen- and niobium-doping have bee...

The surface properties of TiO2-PVDF nanocomposite membranes were investigated by incorporating different chemically modified TiO2 nanoparticles into the poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix. The nanocomposite membranes were prepared via dual coagulation bath diffusion and the induced phase inversion method. The membrane surface morphologies were investigated by using SEM and AFM and related...
متن کاملIntrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation in an Interactive Engineering Game
In this paper, we study intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation in players playing an electrical engineering gaming environment. We used UNTANGLED, a highly interactive game to conduct this study. This game is developed to solve complex mapping problem from electrical engineering using human intuitions. Our goal is to find whether there are differences in the ways anonymous players solved electrical...
